Service Dogs for Veterans

In honor of the many US Military service men and women Veterans who have served our Country and may be still suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Hearing Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injuries or a Mobility Impairment as a result of combat, Paws For Empowerment is dedicated to helping to provide a fully-trained Service Dog as part of our way of “Thank You” to the brave men and women who serve our country.

Paws For Empowerment is dedicated to making service/assistance and companion dogs available to help Veterans lead a more independent life- at NO cost to the Veteran. Veterans whose primary disability is a mobility or hearing impairment as a result of a combat injury during one of the more recent wars and conflicts are eligible for the program..

The service dogs will be trained to meet each individual veteran’s specific needs which could include:

  • Retrieving a phone in an emergency or other command items
  • Stand and brace
  • Helping to pull a manual wheelchair
  • Turning lights on and off
  • Carrying items in a backpack
  • Opening household doors
  • Pushing buttons to open automatic doors in public
  • Retrieving dropped items
  • Retrieving items from shelves and counters
  • Hearing ear/Signal work
  • Any other skill that can help the individual live a more independent life

Paws For Empowerment will work closely with Veteran organizations, the Veteran’s Administration and other such organizations to ensure proper placement and will use a selection process to evaluate Veterans in need.
